For number of years I have been interested in how creative thinking processes work and how computer usage affects these processes. I have not found any comprehensive theory or scientific study on this subject matter - probably because the creative thinking processes are difficult to observe, record and measure scientifically.
I am an experienced business analyst who over the years has documented some very complex information and workflows for computer application development purposes. So, I decided to document creative thinking skills usage in a similar manner, from the user's perspective, in order to gain more insight into how these processes work. For project specific rules I used US patent application filing guidelines.
The end result of this work is a creative thinking skills management method that addresses goal oriented business creativity and self-expressive artistic creativity usage, so that both types of creative thinking skills can be combined as necessary. I named it CreativityModel Method and made it available as an open source project through Creative Commons license.
CreativityModel Method is a creativity management method. This means that the method's user should be able to learn to manage his or her goal oriented and self-expressive creative thinking skills.
This Method is scalable, can be developed further, and is also largely programmable. The limited amount of work that I have done in this area indicates that CreativityModel Method could be used for putting together intelligently behaving computer application functionality, that can be created with less resources than artificial intelligence engineering and expert systems require. Of course, much more work would be required to make any definitive conclusions in these areas.
I worked on CreativityModel Method development from early 2009 to mid-2011 as a self-funded project.
As I described in the CreativityModel Method Development Background article, my working on CreativityModel Method as a hobby goes back a long time. In the process I formed both a for-profit company, CreativityModel Enterprises, Inc. and a non-profit organization, CreativityModel Global Alliance, Inc.
Formally, CreativityModel Method is owned by CreativityModel Enterprises, Inc. and is made available through CreativityModel Global Alliance, Inc. non-profit organization.
I registered CreativityModel Enterprises, Inc. in 2004, when I was working as an independent contractor, doing business analysis and database development for a large corporate customer. On my own, I was exploring CreativityModel Method programmability and computer application development related aspects, and wanted to keep the ownership of that work legally separate from working for a customer.
I registered CreativityModel Global Alliance, Inc. non-profit organization in the end of 2010. For a while I had separate websites up for both of these entities as well. I decided to move all this material to ProjectDeveloper.com in the second half of 2011.
In CreativityModel Method context everything that requires creative development efforts is called a project. Every project involves a theme, goals, structure and content components. This is the material from which the outcome is being built.
The company/organization combination and their websites referenced above can also be viewed as components. Until I have not made any binding agreements, I can form new themes, goals and structures and rearrange the components. That's how CreativityModel Method works as well.
As a project, the company/organization combination has helped me to evaluate goal oriented creativity usage principles and to learn more in business management related areas that interest me.
In the immediate future I do not intend to work on further development of CreativityModel Method. Instead, I will continue considering creativity management my hobby, just like many other people have hobbies. I will explore what other people and companies do in the creativity management industry space and will blog about it on Creativity Management Network. Of course, I will also blog about CreativityModel Method usage related topics.
My interest in creativity management is closely related to goal oriented business creativity and self-expressive artistic creativity usage in combinations. I will also try to find other people who would want to cover these and other aspects of creativity management on Creativity Management Network, so that together we can make that site content more diverse and interesting.
